Absentee Ayotte: What Is Kelly Hiding from This Week?
MANCHESTER, NH — Last week, Amplify New Hampshire highlighted Governor Kelly Ayotte’s inaction, having been caught completely flat-footed as the federal government slashed over $80 million in pandemic-era grant funding that New Hampshire’s budget had been counting on. This week, Ayotte continues to be absent when Granite Staters need a Governor to stand up to the Trump Administration.
“Governor Kelly Ayotte continues to bow down to the Trump line instead of standing up for New Hampshire. Staying silent while Trump defunds Planned Parenthood’s family planning services is just one more step in her long anti-choice voting record and one more empty campaign promise,” said Amplify New Hampshire Executive Director Ryan Mahoney. “Instead of protecting our state’s critical tourism economy, she is risking jobs, small businesses, and state revenue by cowering to Trump’s destructive and senseless tariffs on Canada. It’s clear she’s either too weak to stand up to Trump’s bullying or she’s too ineffective to actually lobby him on New Hampshire’s behalf. Granite Staters expect a strong and independent leader who fights for us. Kelly Ayotte is not getting the job done.”
On this week’s Trump chopping block were:
Tourism Revenue, with Trump’s tariff double-down that threatens New Hampshire tourism as U.S.-Canada relations continue to sour, with the new Canadian Prime Minister saying the old relationship with the U.S. is “over,” declaring that America is “no longer a reliable partner.” Amidst Canadian boycotts of the U.S. in reaction, a downturn in Canadian tourism could risk tens of millions in lost state revenue. Already, experts have warned that proposed 30% budget cuts to tourism marketing could result in $68 million less in tax revenue annually, erasing the New Hampshire Advantage and crippling one of the state’s largest economic drivers.
Family Planning Funds, with the Trump Administration threatening $500K in family planning funds for New Hampshire as part of the decades-running Title X program that supports birth control, STI testing, cancer screenings, and other non-abortion healthcare for low income patients. Governor Kelly Ayotte, who voted to defund Planned Parenthood, an abortion ban, and IVF restrictions as a U.S. Senator, tried to do an about-face on abortion during the 2024 election. And yet, when alleged pro-choice Governor Kelly Ayotte has a chance to defend family planning services, she has been radio silent.
New Hampshire Historical Preservation, as the Trump Administration threatened $1.5 million in grants that support the Canterbury Shaker Village and Concord’s McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, both integral parts of New Hampshire’s rich history and learning opportunities for the thousands of students and visitors they welcome every year.
Kelly Ayotte is responsible for the disaster Trump has wrought as an endorser and supporter of his 2024 campaign.
