Former U.S. Senator John E. Sununu is officially jumping back into New Hampshire politics after sixteen years out of office. As he enters the race, Granite Staters deserve answers: Who does John E. Sununu really work for — is it the powerful foreign and corporate special interests that made his family rich? Or will he get Donald Trump one Senate vote closer to becoming a king?

From ‘Donald Trump is a Loser’ to Bear-Hugging MAGA

The moment John E. Sununu started flirting with a Senate run, he began downplaying his criticisms of Trump. As Sununu runs against a career Massachusetts politician-turned-disgraced Trump nominee Scott Brown, he appears to be scrambling to position himself the same way as the rest of Republicans in Congress who have surrendered their oversight responsibilities and uniformly bent the knee to Donald Trump.

Amidst a POLITICO report of a looming Senate announcement, an anonymous White House source leaked that Sununu “has been in contact with the White House and is expected to visit with President Donald Trump soon”, a leak clearly aimed at mending fences with a Trump White House that demands undying loyalty.

This may prove difficult for Sununu, who in January 2024 penned a Union Leader op-ed, saying “Donald Trump a loser.”

Months later, Sununu launched the Democracy Defense Project with former Democratic Congressman Dick Swett, labeling Trump’s stolen election rhetoric “completely inappropriate” in a broader effort to bolster election confidence that Trump has summarily eroded. New Hampshire voters deserve to know:

  • Does John E. Sununu still think “Donald Trump is a loser”? If not, what changed his mind since publishing his op-ed in 2024?

  • Does John E. Sununu believe Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election?

  • Why should New Hampshire trust that Sununu won’t change his mind however the wind is blowing?

  • Is there anything Donald Trump could do to lose Sununu’s support, and if so, what?

The Sununus: A Family Legacy of Corruption, Foreign Dealings, and Self-Enrichment

For decades, the Sununu name has been synonymous with backroom deals and blurred lines between public power and private profit. From family-owned mining ventures in Azerbaijan and Colombia to real-estate takeovers in Waterville Valley, the Sununu financial dynasty has leveraged its political influence to build personal wealth — often at the expense of ethics and transparency.

After sixteen years out of office, voters have a right to know:

  • What has John E. Sununu done to enrich himself since leaving the Senate?

  • What will his foreign and corporate entanglements mean for his votes and loyalties as a Senator?

  • Who will Sununu be beholden to now that he wants his old job back?
