With Health Care Cuts for 250K Granite Staters On The Line, Ayotte Fails to Fight for New Hampshire

CONCORD, NH — A new Congressional proposal for federal Medicaid cuts as part of the Trump Administration’s spending reduction mandate is threatening the existence of New Hampshire’s Medicaid expansion program which provides health insurance coverage to more than 252,000 Granite Staters. Thanks to Republicans insisting on a 90% Federal Medical Assistance Percentage, New Hampshire is the only state in New England that would trigger Medicaid expansion elimination as a result of funding cuts. In response, Kelly Ayotte “acknowledged widespread uncertainty” about the future of Medicaid expansion in an interview with the Boston Globe. In reaction, Amplify New Hampshire Executive Director Ryan Mahoney issued the following statement:

“‘Uncertainty’ is not an acceptable reaction from Ayotte — it’s her job to create certainty and deliver results. If she and Republicans in Concord aren’t willing to fight against these cuts and act to protect this critical health care, they should be held responsible for nearly a quarter of our state’s population  losing health insurance coverage. Instead of fighting for the hardworking people of New Hampshire and advocating with her Republican allies in the Trump Administration and in Congress to stop cuts that could eliminate health care coverage for more than 250,000 Granite Staters, Kelly Ayotte has effectively shrugged her shoulders and become a bystander in the process. Granite Staters will remember what Ayotte didn’t do to fight for them when it mattered.”
